FAQ

Here we present some of the most frequent questions asked by our clients. If you need further information about any specific theme please do not hesitate in contact us

What is California's tint law?

The Driver’s window and front Passenger’s window can only be as dark as 70%. Rear windows can be as dark as you desire.

What is VLT?

VLT is the visible light transmitted through the windows. So, when you hear a VLT of 35% means 35% of the visible light will pass through the window film.

In the simplest terms, the lower the percentage, the darker the window film will be. A 5% VLT film is very dark as it only lets though 5% of visible light and a 70% film is very light as it lets through 70%.

How long does it take the installation?

We don’t rush on the process because we try our best to have a clean installation.  2&1/2 – 3 hours depending on the difficulty of the car, cleanliness, and the number of windows. Window tinting is not a race, we take our time to offer quality installations. 2 front windows only will take an average of 1 to 1&1/2 hours.

Do the door panels need to be removed for film installation?

The short answer is: It depends on the year, make and model of the car. For some cars, it is necessary if a neat, professional installation is wanted. You need to get the film below the top edge of the door panel so that it doesn’t peel when the window is raised and lowered. In some other models, you can do the same just removing the gaskets.

How long do you have to wait to roll down windows after tint?

If windows are rolled down while the film is still curing to the glass, the tint will most likely peel off. So in order to allow the tint ample time to cure, it’s recommended that you leave your windows rolled up for at least 3 days after installation.

Can you wash your car after window tinting?

A simple car wash on the outside can be applied immediately after a window tint, ONLY if the seal around each window is secure.  Moisture is its enemy and will undo an expensive job in minutes if exposed.   After the tinting has been applied, do not think about washing the interior of your vehicle. You should wait for at least a week.

Is “factory tint” a real tint or just colored glass?

Factory tint is simply tinted glass. Unlike aftermarket tint which is a film that is applied to the inside of the window, factory tint is a pigment inside of the glass. This tint cannot be removed or directly altered. The typical visual light transmission (VLT) of the glass is 15-26%.

It is possible to match “factory tint”?

Yes, but it’s not a perfect match. We do our best to determine the shade and hue of the factory colored glass of your car so you can have the closest match. Most of the time you won’t see a difference from outside, but you will notice a change from the insight.

What do I use to clean my tinted windows?

Warm water and a soft cloth is the best method. Never use a window cleaner containing ammonia as it may affect the color of the tint film.

Why do I see little bubbles or patchiness soon after installation?

This is very normal. Water is used to activate the adhesive and to allow us to move the film around and position it for a perfect installation. Although we squeegee out as much of the water as possible, some small amount remains between the glass and the film. As this water evaporates through the film you may see some little bubbles or foggy patches. These should go away within a few days or up to two weeks (during the colder months of the year.)   Never poke, prod, or pop these bubbles, they will go away on their own.

Can window film ever be removed?

Yes, Window Film can be removed at any time after the installation. As a tint professional we know all the tips and tricks on proper tint removal. Please call us if you require a removal. It is a very tough and messy job, not recommended for beginners.

Will tinted windows inhibit my visibility at night?

This all depends on the shade and quality of film you select. Dark or “limo” tint, 5%, will decrease your visibility at night. If this is a concern, a lighter-medium shade would be advisable.

Does Window Film go on the inside or the outside?

Automotive Window Film goes on the inside surface thus keeping it out of the elements.

Your Title Goes Why do I see bubbled or purple tint on cars?

The tint is either very old or of poor quality.  When this is accompanied by bubbles then the film used was a cheap brand. The bubbles are a result of a failure in the adhesive system causing the tint to literally lift from the glass. If our tint ever bubbles, we will replace it at no additional cost to you.

How durable is tinting?

Window film is protected by a hard scratch-resistant coating that can withstand everyday use and kids. The key word however is “resistant”, this does not mean “scratch-proof”. Even glass will scratch, so be careful when loading and unloading objects with sharp edges, boxes, sporting equipment, and when releasing your seatbelt, this can easily make small nicks that are not covered by warranty.

Will the tint damage my rear defroster?

No it will not. We tint right over top of it. The defrosters can be used right away without affecting the tint.
